Gift Ideas for That Special Someone
By Jeff Cohen, freelance writer (cohenwriting@aol.com)
When it comes to birthday, anniversary, and holiday shopping for that special someone it’s easy to end up at the mall wandering around aimlessly. Finding the perfect gift for your partner can be quite the challenge. Whether you’ve been together for six weeks, six months, or six years, these tips should help get you started. Good luck and happy shopping!
1-3 months ($25)
For him:
• Leather bound day planner
• Leather gloves or wool scarf
• Magazine subscription to Men’s Health, Golf, Fly Fishing Monthly
For her:
• Fabric covered journal
• Manicure or pedicure gift certificate
• Magazine subscription to Glamour, Cosmo, Cooking Light
For either:
• iTunes gift certificate to download fun music
• One time use disposable digital video camera
• Bottle of their favorite wine or liquor
6-12 months ($50-100)
For him:
• Luxury shaving kit- one of those old school sets complete with the rich foam that smells like your grandpa and silky application brush. Maybe if you ask nicely, he’ll even let you take over and help him shave.
• Leather wallet- if his current wallet has seen better days and is hanging on by a thread, this is a great gift idea. You can even stick a cute photo of yourself in the little license window.
• Car care kit- if your guy is really into his car and practically treats it like his baby, he’ll definitely appreciate this gift. Now he won’t have to worry about the guys at the car wash doing a perfect job because he can do it himself.
For her:
• Basket of lotions and soaps- If you’re not sure what her favorite scent is, just check out the products on the ledge of her shower. That should tell you whether she’s a fruity or flowery kind of girl.
• Anything cashmere- women are tactile creatures and love things that are super soft. These days, you can find cashmere hats, gloves and scarves well within your price range. If they’re on sale, you might even want to get all three!
• Spa treatment- what woman doesn’t love to be pampered on her day off? Surprise her with a gift certificate for a soothing massage or facial. She’ll be relaxed and ready to go the next time that you see her.
12 months or more ($100-300)
At this point, you’ve both probably settled into a comfortable zone with each other. You know what the other person really wants and you don’t mind spending the money. These gifts work for either a man or woman and are certainly sure to please.
• Digital camera- you’ll want to capture all the fun and romantic memories at your next big night out on the town. Maybe you just want to take some silly photos of each other lounging around at home.
• MP3 player- with this hot tech gadget, you can take your music on the road with you to the gym or while you ride the subway. For an added touch, you can even pre-load some songs that might have special meaning for the two of you.
• Satellite radio- the choice between XM and Sirius can be a tough one. XM boasts the MLB channels and Sirius has Howard Stern lined up for 2006. If you’re feeling extra generous, you might even throw in a six month paid subscription.
• Couples massage- this might sound strange at first, but once you get in there, you’ll realize how truly relaxing it is. With the two of you on tables side by side gazing into each others eyes, sparks are sure to fly.
